 To ensure the lifespan of any structure, it is imperative to prevent unwanted water/moisture from penetrating the structural elements. When water/moisture is allowed to penetrate a structure, especially concrete, it is susceptible to freeze/thaw cycles. Freeze/thaw cycles cause trapped water/moisture to expand & contract, thus resulting in damage to the surrounding concrete. This process, when repeated, eventually leads to the steel reinforcement becoming exposed and corrosion of the steel reinforcement commences. Extended periods of steel corrosion weaken the integrity of the steel, thus weaking the overall structural integrity of concrete
